1959: The Browns, who were Jim Ed Brown and his sisters Maxine and Bonnie, had the top tune in the US with "The Three Bells". The record is an English version of a French song originally titled "Les Trois Cloches", written in 1945.

1963: The Beatles' single "She Loves You" with "I'll Get You" on the flip side is released in the UK. It will enter the British charts on August 31st and remain there for thirty-one consecutive weeks, eighteen of those in the top three

1970: Four former session musicians who called themselves Bread, topped the Hot 100 with "Make It With You", a song written by their lead singer, David Gates. It made #5 in the UK.

1984: Tina Turner's comeback album, "Private Dancer" is certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and the single from it, "What's Love Got To Do With It" is certified Gold. The album peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 200 chart and the single reached #1 on the US singles chart as well as reaching #5 in the UK and the Top Ten in several other European countries.

1991: The movie Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man debuted in US theatres. The film featured a song called "The Bigger They Come" by Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott, which was their first work together since their days in Humble Pie, 20 years earlier.
