1956: Elvis Presley is presented with a Gold record for "Don't Be Cruel", which has just taken over from "Hound Dog" as the best selling single in the US. When the song was recorded on July 2nd, Elvis, along with Scotty Moore, Bill Black, D.J. Fontana and The Jordanaires ran through 28 takes of "Don't Be Cruel" before he was satisfied.
