1957: The Everly Brothers record "Bye Bye Love", a teen-age love song that was written by 37 year old Boudleaux Bryant and his 31 year old wife, Felice. Although nearly 30 other artists turned the song down, The Everly's version will rise to #2 in the US and #6 in the UK by next May.

1984: The LP "Sports" by Huey Lewis And The News is certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. It will go on to top the Billboard album chart in June and become the second largest selling album of the year, behind Michael Jackson's "Thriller". The collection also spawned four Billboard Top Ten singles, "Heart and Soul" (#8), "I Want a New Drug" (#6), "The Heart of Rock & Roll" (#6) and "If This Is It" (#6).

1970: "Bridge Over Troubled Water" becomes Simon And Garfunkel's third US number one hit. The piano player on the track is Larry Knechtel, who also played for the soft-rock group, Bread.

1980: The Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes" wins a Grammy Award for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year, while Billy Joel's "52nd Street" wins both Album of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

1972: Joe Tex's funk record "I Gotcha" enters the Billboard Pop chart and begins its climb to #2. Much the success of the song is rumored to be Tex's slurred delivery of the line Told you not to play with my affection, which caused many listeners to mistake the last word for one that rhymes with it.
