1970: The Jaggerz, a six piece group from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, see their first Billboard Hot 100 entry, "The Rapper", peak at #2. Two other releases, "I Call My Baby Candy" (#92) and "What A Bummer" (#88) couldn't crack the Top 40.

1976: Boz Scaggs' biggest album, "Silk Degrees" makes its first appearance on the Billboard chart, where it will climb to #2. It's his seventh solo album, but the first to go Platinum. Among the accompanying studio musicians were David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Porcaro and David Hungate, who would go on to form the band Toto.

1974: Jefferson Airplane changes their name to Jefferson Starship. The new line-up includes Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, drummer Johnny Barbata, David Freiberg, Peter Kaukonen, Cragi Chaquico and 56 year old violinist, Papa John Creach.

1972: Neil Young enjoyed his only solo, US number one hit with "Heart Of Gold". Backing vocals were provided by James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt. The song reached #10 on the UK chart.
