1968: An Oxford, Ohio group called the Lemon Pipers saw their only Billboard Top 40 hit, "Green Tambourine", reach #1. It made #7 in the UK. The band would never repeat their success, although "Rice Is Nice" (#46) and "Jelly Jungle" (#70) did enter the Hot 100 later in the year.

1980: Despite controversy over the song's lyrics, which reference teen pregnancy and promote contraception, the English ska band The Specials topped the UK chart with "Too Much Too Young".

1985: The Eagles' Glenn Frey makes his acting debut on an episode of US TV's Miami Vice that was based on his song, "Smuggler's Blues".

1987: Paul Simon's "Graceland" went to number 1 on the UK album chart. The LP would stay on the list for 101 weeks.

1982: Hall And Oates' "I Can't Go for That" hit number one on the Billboard Pop chart and the R&B chart simultaneously, one week after reaching number one on the Disco chart. It becomes only the fourth single by a white act to reach the top of the R&B chart since 1965. The record was also a #8 hit in the UK.
